According to Reuters news agency, online retailer Amazon is developing the modelsmart glassesnew for shippers to expedite delivery.

Specifically, the new glass will give shippers the ability to locate every step along the route and at each stop.AmazonCarry more packages and save on delivery time.

Currently, the company is testing the glasses on a limited scale, getting feedback and refining the technology before mass integration.

If testing shows positive results, Amazon could expand the use of the glasses to all delivery drivers.

There are still some challenges Amazon faces, including creating a battery with enough capacity for shifts lasting several hours and gathering enough location data for the glasses to guide workers.

Like Meta and Snap, Amazon has developed smart glasses for users.

Echo Frames don’t have a camera or screen but do have a built-in microphone and speaker. According to Reuters, Amazon is using this as the basis for its latest version of the glasses.

Amazon also plans to add AI technology to help guide shippers which packages to deliver to specific stops, starting in early 2025.

    Ambition for ‘instant’ delivery

    As of July 2024, Amazon announced that it delivered 5 billion items worldwide to Prime members the same day or next day, a 30% increase year over year.

    In October 2024, Brian Olsavsky, Amazon’s chief financial officer, said the company’s fast delivery times make it more attractive for customers to order inexpensive everyday items, such as Non-perishable groceries and cosmetics.

    Amazon is also opening additional facilities designed to deliver orders, including Amazon Prime orders, the same day they are placed instead of making customers wait until the next day.
